Once you have contacted the virus itself, the period of exposure time to come down with this virus is about ten days.
You can also contact with bird flu by eating an infected bird (rare but can happen). Travellng and contact with others who have had exposure to bird flu themselves, can also make you very susceptible.
If you have these symptoms after a place where there was an outbreak of bird flu, contact your doctor immediately:
1. Fever of 101 or more
2. Throat infection
3. Cough
4. Muscle aches
5. A headache that does not disappear
Avian influenza can cause various complications and even death, what has happened to several people after having the virus. The most common complications of this virus are:
1. Respiratory problems are severe and acute pain as an asthma attack
2. Pneumonia is common in bird flu.
3. The eyes are infected
4. Problems with the brain and heart with bird flu is likely to inflame these areas.
There are antiviral drugs that may or may not help people with bird flu. Most of the time, this virus requires hospitalization.
From this point and time, there is no way to vaccinate a person against bird flu. So the best thing you can do is be aware and practice of preventive care measures, such as:
1. If you travel to a place where there was an outbreak of bird flu, avoid contact with birds at all costs or to visit places where there are cattle.
2. Do not eat dairy products, especially eggs from birds.
3. If you will eat chicken, cook very well. Cooking kills the bacteria from bird flu.
4. It’s a good idea to get some of antiviral drugs and to avoid taking these down with bird flu if the place that target has many cases.
Avian influenza, once contracted, it is difficult to cure because the human immune system has difficulty to defend against viruses that come directly from an animal. That’s why bird flu causes severe symptoms in many people and so many never do well or die. You need to be especially careful if you have a low tolerance of the immune system anyway, or other conditions make it difficult to overcome these viruses, such as heart and lung problems, and diabetes.
